What we’ve been doing this week: May 7-11

Pre-Preppers: In both Pre-Prepper classes, we have been learning all about Mother’s day!  We learned several family-related vocabulary words and the students really enjoyed singing La Madre y El Padre. We also built towers using blocks and practiced counting from 1-5.

Preppers: The Pre-Preppers have also been celebrating Mother’s Day!  They enjoyed drawing pictures of their families and learning the song La Madre y El Padre.  We also learned our weather song and discussed different weather conditions.

Pre-K: The Pre-K classes explored the rainforest this week!  We learned about this habitat and discussed the animals that live there.  We also listened to mariachi music and learned which instruments are typically used in this traditional Mexican music.

K/1st:  Kindergarten and First Grade learned about sports this week!  We learned new vocabulary for these activities and drew a picture of our favorite sports.  We also made cards for Mother’s Day!

2nd/3rd:  The Second and Third graders discussed sports and other summer activities!  We were able to conjugate the verb jugar (to play) and write sentences using different forms of this verb.  We also reviewed calendar vocabulary.

4th/5th: We missed the Fourth and Fifth graders on their trip to Washington DC!

What we’re doing this week: April 9th-13th

Pre-Preppers:  

  • We built towers to practice counting from 1-5 in Spanish
  • Read the story Cinco Monitos Leen in la Cama
  • Learned the song “Viejo MacDonald” to practice saying animal names
  • Sorted blocks by color

Preppers:

  • Read the story El Árbol Generoso (The Giving Tree)
  • We “hopped” on foam numbers to practice counting from 1-10
  • Sang “Soleado, Lloviendo” to practice our weather vocabulary

Pre-K:

  • Learned the song “Voy a la Playa” for our ocean unit
  • We practiced asking and answering the question ¿Comó estás? (How are you?)
  • Practiced counting from 1-15 in Spanish by building a tower of blocks
  • Learned new vocabulary for several different ocean animals

K/1st:  

  • Practiced food vocabulary by singing the song “Tacos and Burritos
  • Learned how to order food in a restaurant
  • Learned to count from 1-20 in Spanish and practiced writing the numbers from 11-15
  • Reviewed calendar vocabulary by singing about the days of the week and months of the year

2nd/3rd:

  • Practiced how to order food in a restaurant
  • Learned to conjugate the verb tener (“to have”) in Spanish
  • Practiced writing numbers in Spanish (using numbers from 1-100)
  • Reviewed weather vocabulary

4th/5th:

  • Learned how to order food in a restaurant in Spanish
  • Wrote descriptive sentences about food in their writing journals
  • Practiced answering questions in Spanish through “interviews”

What we did this week: March 26-30

Pre-Preppers:  The Pre-Preppers learned about birthdays this week!  They really enjoyed the following activities:

  • Learned to sing Feliz Cumpleaños (Happy Birthday) in Spanish
  • Practiced counting in Spanish from 1-5 using birthday candles
  • Sang our name song (Me llamo, Me llamo…)
  • Played a color guessing game

Preppers: The Preppers really enjoyed learning about authors this week!  We completed the following lessons:

  • Read the story Huevos Verdes con Jamón (Green Eggs and Ham) by Dr. Suess
  • Played a color guessing game
  • Practiced singing our weather song
  • Played the game freeze dance while listening to mariachi music

Pre-K: The Pre-K classes learned about the beach and ocean animals!  In this unit, we completed the following activities:

  • Sang Voy a la Playa (I’m going to the beach)
  • Drew a beach picture
  • Reviewed colors by sorting blocks
  • Practiced asking and answering the question ¿Comó estás?

K/1st Grade:  These classes enjoyed starting a unit on insects!  Below are some of the activities that we completed this week:

  • Learned to sing La Itsi Bitsi Araña (The Itsy Bitsy Spider)
  • Drew pictures of insects and labeled them in Spanish
  • Completed a word search with new vocabulary words
  • Reviewed calendar and weather vocabulary

2nd/3rd Grade:  The 2nd and 3rd graders also learned about insects!  This week, they:

  • Played the game Pictionary and tried to guess different insects in Spanish
  • Completed a word search with new vocabulary words
  • Practiced saying and writing the date in Spanish
  • Played the game Higher/Lower to practice saying numbers from 1-100 in Spanish

4th/5th Grade:  We learned all about insects this week!  We completed the following activities:

  • Wrote descriptive sentences about insects in our writing journals

  • Completed a word search to look for new vocabulary words

What we’re doing this week: March 5-9

Pre-Preppers:  In Spanish this week, the Pre-Preppers discussed different types of musical instruments!  We listened to Mariachi music and pretended to play the guitarra (guitar), trompeta (trumpet), and violín (violin).  We also practiced counting from 1-5 using blocks around our classroom.

Preppers:  The Prepper classes learned all about transportation this week!  We practiced singing Las Ruedas del Autobús (The Wheels on the Bus) and sorted different cars by colors.  To review shapes in Spanish, we also went on a scavenger hunt to find shapes around our classroom.

Pre-K:  This week, the Pre-K classes talked about community helpers!  We learned new vocabulary for policeman (policía), fireman (bombero), and veterinarian (veterinario).  We completed a graph to determine our favorite community helper and counted the votes in Spanish.  We reviewed weather vocabulary by singing the song Soleado, Soleado.

K/1st:  The Kindergarten and First grade classes learned about the Incan city of Machu Picchu!  They were amazed by the pictures of this ancient city built among the Andes Mountains of Perú.  These classes also enjoyed listening to the story Jazz Fly 2.  These classes did a great job counting from 1-20 in Spanish!

2nd/3rd:

4th/5th: In Spanish this week, the Fourth and Fifth graders finished their individual projects on South American countries!  We also learned the Spanish word for each of the four seasons and discussed the weather conditions in each season.  We have also been practicing how to ask and answer questions in Spanish by conducting interviews with our classmates.

What we’re doing this week: Feb 27-March 2

In Spanish this week, we finished our unit on clothing!  Many of the Primary School classes enjoyed playing the game ¿Quíen lleva? to practice this new vocabulary.  Our 3-5th graders also researched a South American country for an individual research project!  Below I have listed the activities completed by each class during the week.

Pre-Preppers:

  • Practiced singing our name song (Me llamo, Me llamo) to introduce new friends!
  • Put together Mr. Potato Head to practice saying parts of the body in Spanish
  • Learned the song Las Ruedas del Autobús (The Wheels on the Bus)
  • Drew a picture using our favorite color and practiced naming that color in Spanish

Preppers:

  • Listened to Mariachi music and learned which instruments are used in this type of music
  • Read the story I love Saturdays y Domingos 
  • Reviewed colors by sorting blocks in our classroom

Pre-K:

  • Listened to mariachi music and discussed the instruments used in this type of music
  • Drew a picture to depict the 4 seasons and learned the Spanish word for each season
  • Reviewed colors by sorting blocks in our classroom
  • Read the story Juevos Verdes y Jamón  (Green Eggs and Ham) in honor of Dr. Suess week!

K/1st:

  • Drew a picture to depict the 4 seasons and practiced writing the Spanish word for each season

2nd/3rd:

  • Practiced writing descriptive sentences in Spanish (using the adjective after the noun)
  • Began researching a South American country to share information with the class
  • Reviewed clothing vocabulary by completing a word search

What we’re doing this week: February 20th-24th

In Spanish this week, the Pre-School classes learned all about parts of the body!  They really enjoyed learning new songs to help them remember this new vocabulary.  The Primary School students also finished their unit on clothing!  We discussed the clothing worn when it is hot and cold outside. For our cultural lesson this month, the students completed individual research projects on a South American country.  I can’t wait to see their presentations next week!  Read below to find out more about specific activities that each class completed during the week.

What we’re doing this week: February 13th-17th

In Spanish this week, all classes enjoyed learning new vocabulary relating to Valentine’s Day!  Below you will find some of the specific activities that each class completed.

Pre-Preppers:

  • Read the story Él Día de San Valentín
  • Decorated Valentine’s cards for friends and family
  • Practiced introducing themselves in Spanish by singing Me llamo, Me llamo 
  • Named colors in Spanish while dancing with colored scarves

Preppers:

  • Decorated Valentine’s cards for friends and family
  • Practiced naming different weather conditions in Spanish by singing Soleado, Soleado
  • Read the Valentine’s story Él Día de San Valentín
  • Used blocks to practice grouping items by 10 and practiced counting from 1-10 in Spanish

Pre-K:

  • Decorated Valentine’s cards for friends and family
  • Practiced writing the words corazón (heart) and amor (love)
  • Learned to ask and answer the phrase ¿Cómo estás? (How are you?)
  • Reviewed the vocabulary for different types of emotions in Spanish (happy, sad, excited)

What we’re doing this week: Jan 30-Feb 3

In Spanish this week, all classes continued learning about winter vocabulary!  The Pre-School classes also reviewed counting in Spanish and enjoyed learning a song about families.  The Primary school classes practiced telling time in Spanish and practiced conjugating the verb tener – “to have.” Below you will find the particular activities that we completed during the week!

Pre-Preppers:

  • Practiced counting from 1-10 using blocks
  • Learned the song La Madre y El Padre
  • Discussed different weather conditions and how to say each in Spanish

Preppers:

  • Learned the song La Madre y El Padre and drew a family picture
  • Practiced counting from 1-10 in Spanish and divided blocks into groups of 5 or 10
  • Used shapes to create a snowman (un hombre de nieve)

Pre-K:

  • Practiced counting in Spanish from 1-15 and sorted blocks by color
  • Learned all verses of the song La Madre y El Padre
  • Read the story The Giving Tree (El Árbol Generoso) in Spanish
  • Discussed different weather conditions and how to describe each in Spanish

K/1st:

What we’re doing this week: Jan 23-27

In Spanish this week, all classes have been learning about winter vocabulary!  They learned to describe weather conditions in Spanish and discussed the clothing we wear when it’s cold outside.  Below are a few of the activities that each class completed this week!

Pre-Prepper: The Pre-Prepper classes really enjoyed singing a new weather song this week!   We also reviewed vocabulary for parts of the body using Mr. Potato Head.

Prepper: The Prepper classes enjoyed reviewing their colors and numbers this week!  We played several games to practice saying these words in Spanish.

Pre-K:  The Pre-K classes really enjoyed drawing a snowy scene!  They even practiced their writing skills by labeling their pictures in Spanish.  The Pre-K also enjoyed playing review games to practice saying each color in Spanish.  We also read the book El Árbol Generoso – The Giving Tree.

Kindergarten/1st:  The Kindergarten and 1st grade classes have done a great job learning calendar vocabulary!  They are now able to name all of the days of the week and months of the year in Spanish.  They have also been learning how to describe the weather conditions when it’s cold outside.

2nd/3rd: The 2nd and 3rd grade classes have worked hard to learn the numbers from 1 to 100 in Spanish!  They have enjoyed playing a number guessing game to practice.  They also were able to draw pictures of winter clothing and label each article in Spanish!

4th/5th:  The 4th and 5th grade classes continued learning new winter vocabulary!  They also reviewed how to tell time in Spanish.  In their writing journals, they also were able to write sentences about their friends using descriptive adjectives!

What we’re doing this week: January 2-6

In Spanish this week, the Pre-School classes are learning new winter vocabulary!  They also practiced saying different shapes in Spanish and used these shapes to make a snowman.  Below are a few of the vocabulary words that we studied this week:

  • invierno (en-vee-ehr-noh): winter
  • nieve (nee-eh-vay): snow
  • hombre de nieve (om-bray day nee-eh-vay): snowman

The Primary students also began a new unit
